Iphone 8: Apple’s next smartphone has the internet going crazy

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus may have not caused the celebration Apple was hoping for, but it seems that Apple is saving all its coolness for the iPhone 8, which will come out on the 10th anniversary of the first iPhone. CNET believes that the next iPhone could have wireless charging.

“Samsung does it, and Apple is starting to, too. The wireless AirPods headphones may have been just the beginning. Next year’s iPhone could do away with the last physical wire: the Lightning cable needed for charging.”

The article adds that many different reports claim Apple is finally going to take the wireless plunge. But that’s not the only new feature the iPhone 8 could have.

“It’s also being said that the iPhone will become curved. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo at KGI Securities has predicted that Apple will introduce a new curved AMOLED display in 2017. That’d be a big change from the LCD screens in today’s iPhones — AMOLED is thinner, lighter, more flexible, and more power efficient.”

For the past three years, Apple hasn’t increased the screen resolution on the 4.7-inch or 5.5-inch versions, which lag behind other screens. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S7, the LG 5, and other Android phones have 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution screens. It is rumored that the new iPhone 8 will upgrade to the same resolution as these Android phones.

Uproxx says that besides the curved screen, the new iPhone 8 series could have face recognition.

“A leak from a Chinese manufacturer shows that Apple is considering bolstering its current biometric pass system, Touch ID, with iris-scanning and face-recognition technology. Yes, soon, selfies might be the key to getting your phone to open, because that won’t be obnoxious!” claims columnist Dan Seitz.

There is a lot of excitement for the iPhone 8 on Twitter.

iPhone 7 Sales

“Still, despite the fact that sales have been consistently falling throughout 2016, the iPhone 7 was Apple’s chance to stabilize. Based on recent reports, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the iPhone 7 wasn’t enough to revitalize the market.”

The article adds that sources from Taiwan’s headset supply say that Apple is reducing orders for the iPhone 7 in the wake of decreasing demand for the new flagship. Those sources also claim that the initial rise in demand was thanks in large part to excitement over the Jet Black model and the battery explosions that forced Samsung to recall the Galaxy Note 7. Many BGR commenters after the article seem to think Apple has lost its touch.

“Marketing can’t fulfill the lack of innovation. Apple has to understand that,” says The Focus.

“The iFluffers keep iPologizing and deflecting to prop up those declining sales of the boring iPhone,” jokes Chug.

Apple still has its loyal fans, but has run into trouble with many of their products this year. The Cupertino company had a chance to revive itself with the release of the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, but there has been a very mixed reception. DigitalTrends, who always rated Pros with four stars or more, only gave the 13-inch Touch Bar version three stars.

“We’re disappointed with Apple’s vision of cutting-edge computing. With the new MacBook Pro, Apple has ignored the best features offered by its competitors, while also introducing a Touch Bar of questionable use. The MacBook Pro 13 with Touch Bar is a great Mac – but it’s no longer a great laptop.”

Besides stating that this is the first MacBook Pro that they can’t recommend, Digital Trends also criticized the lack of USB-A ports, the Touch Bar (which they think is somewhat of a gimmick), the unsatisfactory keyboard, and the fact that the battery life takes a step back.

In 2017, Apple will also release the updated iPad Pro, a device that hasn’t sold very well in 2016. Perhaps the iPhone 8 can put Apple back on top.
